How to Request Account Deletion
You can delete your account instantly through the mobile application (recommended), or request it using our web request form below.
Delete Instantly in the Apna Bandhan App
For immediate security and deletion without manual review delay, please use the in-app option:
Open the Apna Bandhan app on your mobile device.
Navigate to the 'Account' or 'Profile' section using the bottom menu.
Tap on the 'Settings' gear icon.
Scroll down to the 'Danger Zone' section.
Select 'Delete Profile' and tap 'Yes, Delete Everything'.
This triggers our backend database script instantly, removing your profile from search results, clearing all active matches, and signing you out of all sessions.
Data Deletion & Retention Policy
When you request account deletion, we adhere to strict user data protection guidelines. Here is a detailed breakdown of the types of data we collect, what gets deleted, what is kept, and the corresponding retention periods.
What is Permanently Deleted
The following personal data is completely removed from our active production database cluster:
Registration details: Full Name, Gender, Date of Birth, and location credentials.
Matrimonial Profile Details: Religion, caste/sub-caste, education, family values, and occupation.
Photos & Media: All uploaded profile photographs and albums.
Verification Records: Government ID photos (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, etc.) uploaded for profile validation.
Social Interactions: Match recommendations, connections, blocked lists, and sent/received interests.
What is Retained & Why
Some basic records are kept for regulatory compliance, security audits, and financial requirements:
Financial & Invoice Records
Under Indian tax laws, payment receipts and transaction history must be retained for up to 7 years.Anonymized Messaging Logs
Your sent messages remain visible to recipients but are completely anonymized (marked as 'Deleted User') and dissociated from your identity.Security & Fraud Prevention Hashes
A secure cryptographic hash of your phone number is retained to prevent users banned for harassment or fraud from re-registering.
Data Retention & Purge Timelines
When you request account deletion, the removal process runs according to these timelines:
Active Profile Deactivation
Your profile is immediately hidden from searches, and all matchmaking matches/chats are disabled from active services.
Complete Backup Erasure
Data remains in encrypted cold backup storage for up to 30 days before being completely overwritten and purged.
Financial Audit Logs
If you purchased a premium subscription, payment transaction references remain in secure finance databases to satisfy statutory regulations.
